Finally
the face is painted with powdered gold
leaf and the features painted with gold.
At last the base is attached. Gold plating
may be partial or may cover the whole
statue.The
gold plating on the best quality statues
is heavier and sometimes covers a wide
area, and the finishing is better, but
the difference may not be noticeable
without close inspection. Sculpture
is produced in bronze and copper. Bronze
statues can be cheaper than the copper
statues but the detail and finish are
not as copper . Most of the family member
of Sakya clan in Patan are involved
for making statue.
All the family member take responsibility
in the processes of moulding, carving, gold
paintings and then they are brought
in the shops or in the market. Our Statue
and ethnic metal objects are exclusively
made for us in Patan.
The cost of our statues and ethnic items
is based upon the level of detail and
fine carving. Costs for two versions
of the same statue can differ. This
is due to the level of its carving,
the amount of gold used in painting
it and the nature of the precious or
semi-precious stones fixed into the
statue to decorate it.
